CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police were able to track down and arrest a teenager accused of stealing a car and eluding police for several hours on Saturday.

The teen is charged with Grand Theft of a Vehicle, Grand Theft, Flee and Elude Law Enforcement, and Driving Without a Valid License. Fox 4 does not identify juveniles under arrest unless they are charged as adults.

According to Cape Coral Police, a resident on SW 37th Terrace reported seeing three males around 2:44 a.m. and called police. An officer blocked off the neighborhood, which is surrounded by canals, and was approached by a car, which revved its engine and drove at the patrol car, nearly striking it. The officer recognized the driver as a 15-year-old male who had law enforcement incidents before.

Officers spent the next hour tracking the vehicle down, finding it abandoned behind a Fort Myers business.

The teen suspect was later taken into custody around 8 p.m. in a traffic stop in Cape Coral. He was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
