LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A vehicle was stolen from a Circle K gas station in Lehigh Acres, and detectives say the getaway driver was just 13 years old.

Due to the ages of the suspects we chose not to reveal their identities.

According to detectives, the vehicle was left running at the pump while the owner paid for gas inside of the gas station.  Surveillance video captured a 15 year-old girl leaving the gas station and entering the passenger side of the vehicle, according to an arrest report.

Some who frequent the Circle K gas station along Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres said the crime could have been avoided.  "Well if they left their keys in their car, and they left it running, it's pretty much their fault," said Gordan Arthur.

A deputy later spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. According to the arrest report, the teens drove off once the deputy exited his vehicle.

Deputies were able to detain the teens after a short chase.

"It's kind of like, you kind of asked for it," said one woman." I hate to say it! I've never left my vehicle running to go in the store," she added.
