CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. --- An overnight crash in Charlotte County left one person dead and another in serious condition early Sunday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol the driver of a Chevy Impala and a passenger, 23-year-old Ivan Ruiz, were traveling northbound around 4:46 am on State Road 31 near the intersection of Farabee Road when the driver lost control of the car and ran off the road.
Investigators say the car traveled through a ditch and collided with a tree. Both the driver and Ruiz were thrown from the vehicle.
Ruiz was pronounced dead and the driver of the car was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe alcohol may have played a part in the crash.
