COLLIER COUNTY, Fla -- The principal of Lely High School released a message requiring all students to stand during the national anthem.

The principal is requiring this for students attending any athletic event on campus.

"When that anthem is being played, you are to stand and you are to be quiet," said Principal Ryan Nemeth during the school's video announcements.

The principal said that this is the only warning that students will be getting for the year. He continued by stating that this is a matter he is very passionate about.

" What you do during that time is your own business," he said. " if you want to sing a song in your head, if you want to meditate -- I really don't care. What I do care is that you stand and stay quiet."

The high school principal stated that if students do not stand, they will be sent home and will not receive a refund of their ticket.
