LEE COUNTY, FLa.- The Lee County School Board discussed Wednesday about the potential site of the new Bonita Springs High School.
The potential sites for the school include a 76 acre parcel of land off of Imperial Parkway and a 67 acre parcel of land at the intersection of Bonita Beach Road and Bonita Grande Drive.
The School Board's main concerns are to alleviate pressure on existing schools and for students to be in walking distance (2 miles) of the new site. Placing the school at walking distance near the location of student's homes will ease traffic concerns and will allow fewer amounts of buses to be used.
The Lee County School Board plans to open the new school by August of 2018. The district does not see any delays that would cause them to miss the schedule timeline for the opening of the school.
In Dr. Adkins opinion, the 76 acre parcel of land off of Imperial Parkway would be the top site for the school.
As of 4:30PM, the meeting was in public comment.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Most of the public comment participants are against Dr. Adkins recommendation for the Imperial Parkway site and are voicing their concerns.
