LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Don't fall for it! That's the word from Fort Myers Police, as they've received several recent reports of crooks claiming to be with the IRS, trying to scam people out of their money.
Police say the scammers are calling, claiming you owe the IRS money and must pay up to avoid being arrested. They typically ask for your credit card information, but they're also known to seek gift cards.
Police want to remind you that the IRS would never demand payment over the phone. And when in doubt, hang up and contact police right away.
