Incumbent Lizabeth Benaquisto winning the primary race against challenger Jason Maughan with 69% of the vote. She faces a write - in candidate Dakota Eads in November.
Benaquisto tells Four In Your Corner her main focuses moving forward will be strengthening the local economy and education. Maughan criticized her heavily during his campaign for not putting enough emphasis on the issues facing Southwest Florida when it comes to water quality.
Benaquisto says she is making it one of her top priorities.
"Planning now for storage south of the lake has been something we've been pushing for and in the next legislative session, our President has proposed additional steps in accelerating opportunities. We're going to be very excited to work with him on those. The trust and confidence that folks have placed in me to represent them in Tallahassee the next four years, it's just incredibly humbling."
Benaquisto has served as a member of the Florida Senate representing Lee and Charlotte counties since 2012.
