Hotels near capacity in SWFL

Posted
Hotels around the Southwest Florida International airport are usually busy this time of year, but the problem has been compounded due to Winter Storm Stella.

The Nor'easter caused the cancelation of thousands of flights around the country including dozens in Ft. Myers.

"The front desk is hopping right now that's for sure," said Jon Nugent, Director of Sales at the Holiday Inn at Gulf Coast Town Center.

Nugent says the hotel is booked solid until April, making it hard for them to accommodate travelers stuck in Ft. Myers because of the storm.

"People want to get out of the weather, up north to begin with to come down here and see the beaches, enjoy the nice weather, so it couldn't happen at a worse time."

Joyce Noyes was one of the fortunate guests able to get a room at the hotel.  Her flight Tuesday morning to Boston was canceled.  She doesn't leave until Thursday and is eager to get back.

"I have my own home, I live alone, I have mail probably and everything else."

Several other hotels within a few miles of the airport were either sold out or close to capacity.
