FORT MYERS, Fla. -- For the past 18 years the Heights Foundation has provided families in the Harlem Heights neighborhood with essential ingredients to make a Thanksgiving meal. This year is no exception, and thanks to more than 100 volunteers they are able to help 400 families make sure they have what they need to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
"It gives us one more opportunity to tell the families that we love them," said Kathryn Kelly.
It can take a lot of ingredients to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. But volunteers help these community members shop through the rows of donated food to make sure their feast is complete.
"I'm normally in my family the one that makes the pumpkin pies, and my mom makes the turkey and the rice and my sister and sister in law do the others," said Emily Roman.
"One of the most heartfelt messages I ever received was a thank you from one of the families that said if we had not provided the turkey and groceries for them they would have had peanut butter sandwiches for Thanksgiving," said Kathryn Kelly.
