Free drug tests kits to be offered in Collier County

Posted

Drug Free Collier has announced that they will offer free home drug testing kits at three upcoming events. The first will be held on Monday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Lorenzo Walker Technical College, located at 3702 Estey Avenue in Naples.

The kits can test for 12 commonly abused drugs: illegal substances such as marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy, as well as prescription drugs like methadone and oxycodone.

"They are 99% accurate," said Ana DiMercurio, assistant director of Drug Free Collier. "Parents who have this, their child would (think) I'm not going to use drugs, because my parents are crazy enough to use a drug test on me."

A limited supply of the kits, which have a $40 value, are being made available through a partnership with the Arizona-based group notMYkid, as well as First Check Diagnostics, which manufactures them.

"If the kids aren't doing drugs, then I don't see why they'd be opposed to taking a drug test," said Jennifer Marchionda, a Naples parent. "I think parents have a right to know."

Other distribution events will be held on October 11 at Oakridge Middle School on Collier Boulevard, and October 13 at Big Cypress Elementary.
