Fort Myers considers re-branding city

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- City officials in Fort Myers are pushing out a survey to see people's thoughts about re-branding the "City of Palms."

The survey includes different options for a city slogan and city logos. Choices for slogans are:

  • REAL. GOOD. LIFE.
  • The city of warm welcomes
  • Feel real Florida
  • Sunny days and warm ways
  • Get real Florida
  • Good things happen here
  • City of Palms

Fox 4 went downtown to get people's thoughts. Most liked the current slogan. "I grew up here and 'City of Palms' to me, that's what Fort Myers is," said Nick Tennesen.

Mayor Randy Henderson also enjoys the current slogan. "I think the City of Palms has a wonderful ring to it, it has a positive connotation," he said. "I don't see a scenario where we would be moving away from that image.

He said they're not looking to get rid of the current brand, but test how Fort Myers is viewed from an outside point of view with professional research so that improvements can be made if necessary. "What should we be doing in regards to branding,  if anything. Help us understand how Fort Myers is viewed from the outside world, not only domestically, but from foreign travelers."

Others think the research project, which has an almost $100,000 price tag, is a waste of tax dollars. "You want to fix a problem? Fix out economic development, fix our revitalization of our neighborhoods. Don't go waste our money and time to distract us from what's really going on in this city," said local attorney Sawyer Smith.
