PUNTA GORDA, Fla.-- Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 7th annual Pirate Fest at Fishermen's Village. The 3-day festival includes live music, food and vendor booths full of souvenirs.

"This is the whole reason this festival is going on, just to have fun," said musician Jen Shumilak.

Shumilak has performed at the Punta Gorda Pirate Fest for several years. He said he enjoys playing music from the golden age of piracy and watching kids and adults of all ages dance along.

Despite September being considered the off-season, Fishermen's Village said this is the biggest even they host during the year.

"So it's a great economic boom for Fishermen's Village and Punta Gorda," said Fishermen's Village marketing and events manager Kathy Burnam.

Burnam said nearby hotels are booked solid months in advance and local restaurants are always packed during this event.

"And the event has grown year after year," said Burnam.

This year, the event estimates 15,000 visitors over the 3-day period.
