An Ave Maria man is dead after a head-on crash involving a pick up truck and a truck tractor in Collier County Thursday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Gianni Guzman Rauno was northbound on State Road 29 south of Oil Well Road when troopers say his pickup truck drifted into the southbound lanes as a tractor trailer truck was approaching.
The driver of the tractor trailer began to swerve in an effort to avoid the truck but they collided head on.
Rauno's truck spun around on the road, while the tractor trailer's cab portion overturned on the shoulder. The trailer remained upright.
Rauno died from his injuries in the crash.
The tractor trailer's driver only suffered minor injuries.
State Road 29 was closed from Oil Well Road to I-75 for the several hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
