FORT MYERS, Fla -- The numbers from day one of early voting across Southwest Florida are in, and it's safe to say it was a busy day at the polls.
Fox 4 took a look at the ballot trackers and also checked in with local supervisor of elections offices to gather some perspective on those numbers.
Lee County saw the biggest early voter turnout on day one, with more than 8,300 voters turning out to the polls.
Collier County saw nearly 7,400 and Charlotte saw more than 3,100.
To put those numbers into perspective, the Supervisor of Elections Office in Collier County said 7,575 voters turned out for early voting for the August primary election. That figure was for the entire early voting period, so an eight day span. Which means the county did close to the same number, but in one day, for the general election.
