East Lee HS employee terminated by school board

Posted

LEE COUNTY, Fla-- On Tuesday, school board members with the Lee County School District voted 7-0 to terminate Orlando Torres, who worked at East Lee High School as a security guard.

An emotional Torres told Fox4 after the school board meeting that he was speechless with the board members vote. Torres was employed with the district for 8 years as security guard.

"I want to say maybe it's my fault," said Torres' daughter Mariah.

Mariah believes her dad's firing by the Lee County School District stems from an incident she claims to have had with her math teacher Jonathan Blikstad.

“He came across the room, pulled my hair back and kissed me on my neck. My face turned blood shot red and I didn’t know what to do and I was thinking why me, why did he have to do that to me," said Mariah Torres.

Torres claimed this happened two days before her dad was suspended without pay, after 2 young girls said he made sexual statements towards them, allegations he said are untrue.

"I got proof that states I didn't make those comments, I didn't make those comments and they chose not to accept them," said Torres.

While Torres said he was prepared for Tuesday's decision, he said he's now going to shift his focus on fighting for a stricter punishment against Mr. Blikstad.

"It's exactly what my wife said, justice for my daughter," said Torres.
