LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Cape Coral man was injured Thursday night in a serious crash on the Midpoint Bridge.
21-year-old Tyler Sylvia was critically injured in the crash, in which his car slammed into the back of a truck that reportedly ran out of gas.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Sylvia was crossing the bridge towards Fort Myers around 9:30 p.m. when he approached a truck that was stopped in the left lane with its hazard lights on. The truck's two occupants were standing on the shoulder of the bridge at the time.
Sylvia's car slammed into the rear of the truck, requiring emergency crews to perform an extraction. He was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The crash is still under investigation.
