Dogs bring smiles and money to humane society

FORT MYERS, Fla -- The "Best Dressed Chihuahua" event is a popular one over at one of Fort Myers favorite shopping destinations. The fourth edition hoping to raise money to help benefit other animals who are looking for homes.

Nearly thirty Chihuahuas wearing a wide range of costumes with the goal of coming away as the "Best Dressed Chihuahua" at Fleamasters Flea Market.

“Oh, the costumes have been amazing," said Linda Steele.

All the proceeds go to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

"I think it is fantastic that's why we are a part of that today,” said Christine Zak, who dressed up along with her pet. “We want to donate as much as we possibly can," she added

The generosity of these dog owners is more than just show and it warms the hearts of Paul Howell and his friend from the humane society, China.

"It is good to see these people bring in their pets really show the love and how they are a family," said Howell.

The winners got to take home gift baskets filled with merchandise and flea market coupons worth up to $350.
