CAPE CORAL, FLA — The state of Florida has recently denied more than 267,000 unemployment claims.

That's enough people to fill Hertz Arena more than 32 times.

"Now I'm being penalized and I can't even get my unemployment," said a local business owner.

They're claims denied to people like that business owner, who are frustrated.

And a local state representative says she hears the frustration and understands.

"I thought well, I would give it a try and see whether I could get some people to donate so that we might be able to in some small way make a difference in a few lives while they're still waiting for their check," said State Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen

She's started this gofundme page, with a goal of raising a few thousand dollars for the Fort Myers community.

She says got the idea, after doing a similar campaign for Immokalee.

"Just this past week I was able to deliver over $2,100 to the farm workers," said Fitzenhagen.

Fitzenhagen says she hopes that those you can, will contribute, and that those in need will reach out.

"I would recommend that they should send me a facebook message probably or that they call my helpline which is 239-360-4009," said Fitzenhagen.
