CAPE CORAL, Fla -- We continue to follow Florida's uptick of new coronavirus cases.

The number of COVID-19 cases in our state is now over 97,000, and there's been a lot of controversy over whether or not increased testing is pointing to that spike.

If trends continue, Florida is on track to hit 100,000 cases Monday. So Fox 4 took a close look at the latest statewide data, to help make sense of the numbers.

According to a state report, week over week the last two weeks the number of people tested statewide has been about the same. From June 7-13, that number was 240,581. From June 14-20, it was 241,385.

However, the percent of positive cases has gone up. For June 7-13, that number was 6%, and for June 14-20 it was 11%. So with testing remaining relatively the same, we saw a statewide increase of 5%.
