FORT MYERS, Fla. — “Because on top of the Coronavirus we have to take care of your chronic conditions you're living with everyday”, said Dr. Rick Waks.

Dr. Rick Waks with Millennium Physician Group says when it comes to visiting the doctors office during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s essential for those living with a chronic disease.

“If you suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, or COPD, diabetes, heart disease, it’s important that you come to the doctor”, said Dr, Waks.

“We know Corona attacks people with chronic diseases more easily and makes them more sick”, said Dr. Waks.

For those of us who aren’t living with a chronic illness, give your doctor a heads up before rushing in.

“It’s very difficult when it’s important for some people to be seen, when it could be Corona or when it may be just allergies or a sinus infection. So the most important thing is to give us a holler, give us a call”, said Dr. Waks.

No matter how you call, Dr. Waks says be sure that you do.

“Do a Telehealth visit with us. We need to make sure your labs are okay, your breathing is okay, that you’re up to date with your medicines. We’re here for you to make sure you’re doing okay with your chronic disease”,said Dr. Waks.

Adding COVID-19 is scary, but the decline in your overall health could be much worse.

“Probably more scary than the Coronavirus, is not taking care of your diabetes, your emphysema, your COPD, heart disease, and we need to make sure those diseases are taken care of or you’re going to run into a problem”, said Dr. Waks.

For those heading to the doctors office Dr. Waks has some advice.

“I don’t want you stopping at a store, talking to friends, keep your distance, come to the doctor and we’ll take care of your health”, said Dr. Waks.
