COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - The Collier County community recovering after wicked weather caused devastating damage over the weekend.
Straight-line winds from serious thunderstorms leaving a mark on several homes and yards. The storm's winds were up to the force of an EF-1 tornado, although a tornado didn't actually form.
Those high winds leaving a mess in 92 year-old Marlys Walker's yard. "I've been in this home since 1952 and I've never seen a winter storm like this before", she said.
While residents are picking up the pieces, visitors to the area are picking their spot in the sand.
John Houskeeper and Nancy Spencer are visiting from Vermont and tell Fox 4, "We came here because we figured we'd get away from one month of cold weather and then go back and ski. Right now where we live it's in the 20’s, probably snowing"
They say they’re used to dealing with intense weather, but never expected their piece of paradise would get severe weather this time of year.
