COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A manhunt continued Tuesday for 19-year-old Jorge Luis Jimenez, who the Collier County Sheriff's Office said fired three shots at deputies while they were responding to a domestic dispute at his home on Covey Lane in the Quail Roost neighborhood Friday night.
They said Jimenez fired three shots at deputies. The bullets did not strike anyone, and no one was injured.
"We take it pretty seriously when a deputy gets shot at," said Captain Rod Bishop of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
Bishop said while he believes investigators have recovered the gun Jimenez allegedly used, the teen probably doesn't have a cell phone or getaway car.
"I think it's a pretty good possibility that he could be looking for an empty residence to get into," Bishop said.
Sandy Brodersen, a Quail Roost resident who said the shots were fired right near her house on Woodpecker Lane, saw deputies enter vacant home across the street from hers with guns drawn. "They came out empty-handed," Brodersen said.
Deputies have also been checking the surrounding woods, and circling Quail Roost by helicopter.
Days after the initial commotion, Brodersen said she's still on edge. "I don't know if I should walk the dog," she said. "I keep looking to see if there's anybody hiding."
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said there is a $1,000 reward for information leading to Jimenez's arrest. The search Tuesday involved approximately 60 deputies and first responders.
