FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Republican candidates for Lee County Sheriff stated their platforms Tuesday as they vie for your vote this year.

Sergeant Stephanie Eller and James Didio attending the inaugural public forum, which was hosted by the Fort Myers Republican Women.  Both are challenging incumbent Mike Scott, a fellow Republican whose seeking his fourth term in office.  He was unable to attend the luncheon.

Both candidates stressed the need for additional deputies on the street in order to curb crime.

"Right now we don't have enough guys on the street.  This is street-level crime, and it's easily combated with more people to combat the crime.  We need to get our guys motivated, back out there on the street, and fighting this crime, right at the street level," said Didio.

"So one of the things I would do is I would turn that pyramid back right side up.  I feel as if we have gotten way too top-heavy, and we need to get more boots on the ground.  We need a lot more law enforcement visibility out there," said Eller.

This year's Lee County Sheriff's race also features Ernest Colby, and Mike Zaleski, each of whom have no party affiliation.
