FORT MYERS, Fla. - A bear spotted in the Fort Myers River District was caught.

The bear was spotted in the area earlier in the day.

Florida Fish and Wildlife received a call around 3:50 Monday morning about a bear sighting in Downtown Fort Myers near the yacht basin.

They were able to track down bear along the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and McGregor Boulevard. The bear then retreated to a home on the corner of Vesper Drive and West Riverside Drive.

"My heart started pounding it was very exciting. I wanted to wake up all of my family," said Jonathan Brooke.

He captured cell phone of the young bear roaming around near his backyard.

"I knew my neighbor had a pretty large rottweiler so i just kind of looked the other way and started walking into my house and i looked again and obviously it wasn't a rottweiler it was huge," said Brooke.

FWC set up a bear trap near the home where it was last seen.

"I was thinking wow there's a black bear in my front yard," said Drew Billett.

Billett spotted the bear rummaging for food in his yard. The 11 year-old says he's seen black bears before, but never this close.

"It ate most of it, there were more plants and this is the only one that's left," said Billett.

All afternoon curious residents stopped by a trap set up for the young bear. The bear hasn't been spotted again, but residents in the area are happy it stopped by their neck of the woods.

"It was a pretty funny way to start the day, definitely," said Brooke.
