5th grader says teacher pinched her

Posted

Serenity Alfaro says she was dragged to the principal's office Wednesday by her teacher and another staff member.

"I said let go of my arm, that's when she started pinching me, I said let me go," said Alfaro.

It happened at Colonial Elementary in Ft. Myers after Alfaro got into a dispute with her teacher.

Serenity's teacher grabbed her and escorted her to detention, but she claims the violence didn't end there.
School officials let her go back to class, where she had another run in with the same teacher.

"I tried to get some water,  she pulls me up, she said nah-aw, no water."

Serenity's mom, Charletta Jones, is furious she didn't find out about the incident until her daughter got home from school.

"I'm just heart broken because I put trust in the school when they leave my custody, and I feel like they are supposed to be safe and protected," said Jones.

A Lee County School District spokesperson confirmed the district is investigating the incident, but would not go into details.

"I want something to be done, I don't want her to feel like she got away with it, either she gets suspended, fired," said Jones.

Serenity didn't go to school Thursday, and she doesn't want to go back because she's so traumatized by the incident.

"My mom said, do you want to switch schools, and I said yes, really fast."

Charletta said she filed a police report about the incident with FMPD and requested a meeting with the school district, but has yet to hear back from them.
