The Fort Myers High School student that was struck by a car at a bus stop Wednesday has died.

16-year-old Cameron Mayhew died before 2 p.m. Thursday.

According to his family, Cameron chose to be an organ donor.  His family says Cameron's organs will be used to save the lives of others.

A Gift of Life ceremony is scheduled for 2 PM Friday at Lee Memorial Hospital.

Cameron was struck before 6am Wednesday morning on Pine Ride Road near Kelly Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Mayhew attempted to cross the southbound lane of Pine Ridge Road as the bus waited in the northbound lane with its lights on and safety signals engaged.

Troopers say a silver Chrysler driven by 23-year-old Zackery Treinen failed to stop for the bus and hit Mayhew as he crossed the street.

Treinen is charged with failure to stop for a school bus.
