The family of Stef'an Strawder, the 18 year old who was shot and killed at Club Blu in Fort Myers, is planning to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the club, the promoter, and owner of the property.
It's still unclear why shots were fired, who the shooter or shooters were, or how this all unfolded but the family's attorney says there wasn't enough security at the club that night.
"The security did not work," he said. "The event was promoted as a teen night and that's a problem because grown people came in without ID's being checked."
Joe North is the attorney representing the Strawder family. He says the owners should have known better to set up proper security with the recent history of violent crime.
"It's my understanding there was a shooting even the week before at this particular location," North said."If there has been prior criminal activity, then it means the club has noticed that type of thing can happen again and that's when you have to have appropriate security."
North says he plans on filing the suit at the end of the week but is waiting for club owners to respond to figure out if they can come to an agreement without litigation. No figure has been set yet.
