3 SWFL cities on state's boring list, Sanibel #1

When you think "boring," do you think of southwest Florida? Apparently the folks behind one website do.

The travel site "Road Snacks" ranked the ten most boring places in Florida, and Sanibel tops the list, with three other southwest Florida cities rounding out the top ten.

When Debra Guido, who's lived in southwest Florida for 14 years, heard Sanibel topped the boring list, she was shocked.

"I would find that very hard to believe because there's so many nice places on Sanibel. It's a very homey, fun little town," Guido said.

Road Snacks crunched the numbers, including average age, the percentage of married couples, households with kids, and people over 65, leading Sanibel to the top spot.

But Guido said between the shops, shells, and scenery, Sanibel is nothing but fun, pointing to the traffic as proof.

"If you go over there, it is a lot of traffic all the time, and if it's that boring, I can't see people going," she said.

But seasonal resident Karl Oldag sees it differently.

"I can understand it. If you play golf, there's a couple good golf courses over there, but other than that, I don't get too excited when I go to Sanibel," he said.

He said there's no doubt the beaches are great, but for him, it's not enough.

Regardless of the city's standing when it comes to excitement, Guido said to check it out for yourself.

"Just enjoy Sanibel. We love it!" she said.
