FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Constructed as the third public high school in Lee County, Dunbar High School opened in 1926.

Named after the poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, the high school, along with Williams Primary School, offered educational opportunities for kindergarten through 12th grade for black children in the area.

In November of 2007, it was recognized as the world's first Microsoft-certified high school for their Academy for Technology Excellence.
