HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. -- Forestry officials are conducting a controlled burn in a state forest north of Immokalee on Friday.
According to the Florida Forest Service, a 2000-acre burn is under way in Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest.
That's located east of S.R. 29 between Immokalee and LaBelle.
The prescribed burn will help to reduce the understory made up of saw palmetto and gallberry, pine needles, leaf litter, and grassy surface fuels.
