UPDATE 3:42 pm.:
Charlotte County Fire and EMS said they responded to two grass fire on the highway.
A spokesperson said both fires were about 100 by 200 feet and it was burning on both sides of the road.
The road was shut down because of the smoke, but has since reopened.
The cause is not known at this time; no one was hurt.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said US-17 is shutdown in both directions at Bryan Way in Punta Gorda, near Washington Loop Road due to a brush fire.
The Sheriff's Office said the brush fire smoke has caused it to be difficult to see the road.
This is a developing story and FOX 4 has a crew on the way.
