DeSoto County shelters to open Saturday

DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. -- Two shelters are set to open Saturday in Desoto County. 

A shelter for the general public will open at 10 am Saturday at DeSoto Middle School at 420 East Gibson Street, Arcadia, Florida 34266.

A special needs shelter will open on Saturday at 3 pm at South Florida State College at 2251 NE Turner Avenue, Arcadia, FL, 34266. Officials expect this shelter to reach capacity. Applicants must register at this shelter, and is limited to people who need medical aid or oxygen to survive.

DeSoto County Emergency Management is recommending voluntary evacuations for people in flood prone areas and people who live in RV parks or mobile homes. Areas of flooding concern are Horse Creek, the Peace River, Spring Lake, and parks of Lake Suzy.
