FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Troopers blocked off lanes of Tamiami Trail in Fort Myers due to a traffic crash with fatality Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 12:30 PM near the intersection with Hendry Creek Drive, just south of Gladiolus Drive.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, one northbound lane was closed and two southbound lanes were closed. All lanes have since been reopened.

Officials say the crash involved three vehicles. Two were traveling northbound on Tamiami Trail when the vehicle in the middle lane struck the vehicle in the left lane in the rear sending that vehicle over a median. A vehicle traveling southbound then struck that vehicle head-on. One person was in each car. The driver that was hit head on did not survive.

The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time.  We'll update as more info is released.
