EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. -- Students in one community that was hit hard by Hurricane Irma were welcomed back to school with a teddy bear giveaway.
Schools in Collier County have been closed the last two weeks while residents recover from the storm, which knocked out all power to the community of Everglades City in eastern Collier.
So community member Brenda Johnson and the office manager of Everglades City School had an idea. They wanted to give students a gift when they returned to school, and reached out to Costco for help.
Many of these children lost all their toys to the mud and storm, but smiles were on their faces Monday.
The Collier County Public School District shared this video of the happy students.
