Power outages on the rise along Florida's east coast

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA -- Florida Power and Light are reporting hundreds of thousands without power across the state as Hurricane Matthew works up the coastline.  Southwest Florida though has managed to largely escape widespread outages.

As of 11am Friday, over 600,000 FPL customers are without power.

Here's a look at the number of homes in Southwest Florida with reported power outages:

  • Lee County: 80
  • Collier County: 400
  • Charlotte County: 220
  • Hendry County: 10
  • Glades County: 10

Along the east coast, the numbers are increasing:

  • Miami Dade County: 4,790
  • Broward County: 5,070
  • Palm Beach County: 43,060
  • Martin County: 44,600
  • St. Lucie County: 41,400
  • Indian River County: 38,190
  • Brevard County: 186,970
  • Volusia County: 157,470
  • Flagler County: 39,240
  • St. Johns County: 28,950
  • Duval County: 0
