Hurricane Matthew strengthens to a Category 3, considered a major hurricane, as it continues to track west-southwest in the Caribbean. Maximum winds speeds are currently at 115mph with higher gusts.
Matthew is slowing in forward speed, now moving at 12mph, and is located about 495 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. This general track is expected through the start of the weekend before the northerly turn forecast Saturday into Sunday. Little change in strength is expected during this time.
A slight shift eastward in the track was seen in the 11 am update as well, although forecast confidence remains low after 3 days. At this any potential impacts on Florida remain minimal as we head into the middle of next week.
We will continue to monitor this storm and keep you updated.
