There has been little change with TD 3 overnight but the storm is still expected to become Cristobal sometime this week as it drifts over the southern Bay of Campeche. Long range forecast models continue to point toward bringing the storm northward toward the northern Gulf coast by this weekend as a tropical storm.

NHC is issuing advisories on newly formed Tropical Depression #3 which has formed in the southern Gulf. The storm will meander across the southern Gulf through this week with conditions favorable for it to intensify, possibly becoming the 3rd named storm of the season, Cristobal. The latest forecast tracks keep the storm west of our area through the end of the week, with a northward drift toward the northern Gulf Coast from Texas to Mississippi, but the eventual track is still highly uncertain.

NHC has increased the chances for development to 80% in 2-5 days. This system is likely to become our next named storm in the next week or so as it moves northward across the western Gulf. I do NOT expect this to have a direct impact on Florida but we will continue to monitor it throughout the week.

The remants of the Pacific Tropical Storm Amanda are now over northern Guatemala and are forecast to move NNW toward the Bay of Campeche Monday. If this system remains over the warm Gulf waters environmental conditions will be favorable for a possible depression to form by the middle of the week. Either way several inches of rain will fall over Central America and southern Mexico. It looks unlikely this system will impact our state, but we will continue to watch for further development.

The National Hurricane Center has increased the chances for development up to 50% in 5 days. Long range models develop the system and take it northward with the most likely area of concern eventually being Texas and Louisiana, but it is still way to early to make a specific call on specific impacts. It is looking unlikely that this system will have any effects on Florida.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area in the southern Gulf for possible development in about 7-10 days. Forecast models have been hinting at lowering pressures in the far Southern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche for several days. Several of them develop the system into an eventual tropical storm tracking northward toward the northern Gulf Coast, mainly from Texas to Louisiana around the second week of June. There are no indications this will be an eventual Florida threat, but needless to say, this year's hurricane season is starting on a busy note. The next storm on the list is Cristobal.
