FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A futuristic addition to Lee Memorial Hospital is changing the way doctors treat their patients.
The robot, named "Tug" helps deliver medications throughout the hospital.
Tug is mapped to the hospital and uses the facility's wireless network to control elevators and doors. After completing deliveries, tug returns to the charging dock in the pharmacy.
"It's allowed us to use the robot to send out those interim deliveries to various units so they don't have to wait for the next round. So it's helping the patients get their meds more timely," says director of pharmacy Larry Clark.
Since Tug's implementation on September 27th, it's made an average of 17 trips a day, averaging 30 unit deliveries per day.
