A source told ESPN’s Michael Eaves that University of Louisville men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino was fired Wednesday morning amid allegations the program is involved in a federal investigation involving college basketball recruiting.

A source told Eaves that Pitino -- a Hall of Fame coach -- told members of his coaching staff he expected to lose his job after a Wednesday morning staff meeting in Louisville.

The United States Attorney's Office in New York filed three complaints that allege fraud and corruption in the "dark underbelly of college basketball," acting US Attorney Joon H. Kim said Tuesday at a news briefing.
