CAPE CORAL, FLA — It's not always easy to know what kind of people live around you, But when Ali Wilson asked for help on the Nextdoor app, she quickly found out.
The question?
"Would anybody be interested in helping with this?"
She was looking for donations, so she could put together thanksgiving meal bags for those in need.
"And people just started responding like crazy," she said.
In all, they served 45 families.
"So I thought okay, we're doing this for Christmas," Wilson said.
And that leads us to the eve of Christmas Eve.
Wilson says she asked again.
And again, her community came through, with enough to feed 40 families.
"It's amazing to me how people have stepped up. People that are unemployed are bringing donations," she said.
If you missed out on a meal bag, Wilson also runs a free community food pantry, just outside her Cape Coral home.
"It's nice because it's anonymous for them," she said.
And if you need items that the pantry doesn't have, she says you can do the following:
"Have them get in touch with me, we'll make it happen. I can't say no, I just can't say no," she said.
