FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Fort Myers Beach is now home to the area's first fully automated smart marina.
Gulf Star Marina says the facility functions like a high-tech vending machine.
Boats up to 40 feet in length are put into multiple levels of dry storage.
They say a stacker crane can transfer them to the water in seven to ten minutes.
Operations Manager Andrew Wagner says the best part is that boaters can do it through an app on their smartphone.
"You no longer have to put all this work into boating. We sort of take care of that for you, whether it be provisioning your boat or servicing your boat. You can message on the app on your phone or give us a call and we can schedule anything you need," said Wagner.
He says the 29,000 square foot facility is designed to withstand a category five hurricane.
By the end of the year, they plan to open a ship supply store and a captain's club for boaters.
