FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - A Broward County woman who killed her police officer boyfriend when he discovered she made up a story about being pregnant will serve life in prison.
Tiniko Thompson was sentenced Friday after being convicted of second-degree murder in the May 2014 shooting death of 53-year-old Miami police officer Carl Patrick.
The Sun Sentinel of South Florida reports (goo.gl/EiRpzv) Thompson moved in with Patrick after making up a story that she was pregnant. Patrick then tried to break off the relationship several months later when it became obvious she wasn't pregnant.
Prosecutors said the now 48-year-old Thompson shot Patrick, wrapped him in a blanket, took his cell phone and left their home, leaving him to die.
