PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --- The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County have issued a beach advisory due to high levels of Enteric bacteria at Don Pedro Island. 

Water samples collected from Don Pedro Island indicated the presence of enteric bacteria which may come from stormwater runoff, pets, wildlife, and humans. 

Residents who consume high levels of Enteric bacteria through ingestion or an open cut or sore may experience an infection. Other common symptoms include rashes, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. 

The beach remains open, however, wading, swimming and water reaction is not recommended at this time. 

The Department of Health in Charlotte County will continue to monitor bacteria levels at these beaches and will issue an update when the beach advisory is lifted.
