Three arrested for stolen rifle during traffic stop

Three men are behind bars after a traffic stop revealed a stolen rifle, a loaded handgun and marijuana in their vehicle.

On Wednesday, FMPD were conducting surveillance in the area of the Southward Village public housing complex on Edison Avenue. 

A male subject known to them as Desmond Belmer was spotted loitering around the residence of 3036 on Franklin Street, according to a report.

A second subject by the name of Javaris Broomfield was seen exiting the residence carrying a large object wrapped in what appeared to be a black hoodie. Police say Broomfield placed the object in a blue Ford Expedition parked on the property and entered the back seat of the vehicle. Seconds later, Belmer exited the residence with a third subject by the name of Elex Mouzon and entered the vehicle.

The vehicle drove off the property and Officers later conducted a traffic stop. The three occupants were detained after trying to flee from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Quartercircle, 9mm, fully automatic, short barreled rifle with a Trijicon RMR red dot sight, and 30 round magazine.  The assault rifle was reported stolen from Charlotte Count, Florida.  Officers also located a loaded, Smith and Wesson, SW40E, .40 caliber handgun inside the vehicle.    Marijuana was also seen strewn throughout the vehicle. 

Belmer, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm (Pistol), trespassing, and possession of Marijuana under 20 grams. 

Broomfield, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon (Assault Rifle), and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Mouzon, was charged with operating a vehicle with no valid license and possession of Marijuana under 20 grams.
