Teen charged with homicide after Lehigh shooting

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Detectives say they have made an arrest in the fatal Mother's Day night shooting in Lehigh Acres that left a teenager dead when a drug deal turned violent.

A 17-year-old Lehigh Acress male has been arrested and charged with Robbery with a Firearm and Homicide while in the Commission of a Felony for the death of 17-year-old Jonthomas Hobbs.  Fox 4 has chosen not to identify the juvenile since he has not been charged as an adult.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Hobbs and two others drove to the intersection of 32nd Street SW and Wanda Avenue Sunday night to complete a drug deal.

The group met with a black man on foot, and during the transaction, an altercation took place and the suspect shot Hobbs in the shoulder.  He died from his injuries.

Investigators were able to identify the teen and arrested him early Tuesday morning.  He was booked into the juvenile intake facility and held on 21 days of secured detention.

He has a scheduled trial date of May 26th.
