CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A vehicle theft and burglary that ended in a police-involved shooting in Cape Coral early Monday has resulted in the arrest of the 15-year-old suspect.
The teen is being charged with Armed Burglary of a Conveyance, Resisting an Officer Without violence, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure, and Criminal Mischief.
Police say that just after midnight, the teen used a stolen SUV to pull open the rear door of R&W Guns on NE 3rd Avenue, but left the scene without taking anything. Later that morning, police found him committing a car burglary and chased him into a canal. During an hours-long standoff, the teen reportedly pointed a gun at officers, who returned fire and injured the teen.
He was released from the hospital Monday evening and taken to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center.
