The search continues Sunday for a missing swimmer who disappeared off the coast of Boca Grande Saturday afternoon.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says four swimmers were on a sandbar near the Boca Grande lighthouse just before 4 p.m. when the current began to shift outbound.
Beach-goers tried to rescue the stranded swimmers, but had to call for help. Two females and one male were eventually rescued, but a 21-year-old man disappeared before being rescued.
After establishing a command post, multiple law enforcement agencies began a search by air and boat. The U.S. Coast Guard has taken the lead on the search as it enters Sunday.
