PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- A local Firehouse Subs has donated over $10,000 worth of safety equipment to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office posted photos to Facebook Tuesday honoring the restaurant on Veteran's Boulevard at Tamiami Trail for donating eight ballistic shields.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing lifesaving equipment and educational opportunities to first responders and public safety organizations.

In Florida alone, Firehouse Subs has donated more than $4.2 million.

They thank franchise owners Russ Clouden and his wife for their generosity.
