SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - A southwest Florida teen has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting a man he believed made an offensive comment to a female friend.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://goo.gl/ssfOdt) reports that a Sarasota County judge sentenced the 18-year-old on Wednesday. He was convicted in August of second-degree murder with a firearm.
Authorities say 23-year-old Carlton Parhm and some friends had met with a woman in March 2014, and the woman later told her friends that Parhm had made a sexual comment about her.
One of her friends tracked down Parhm and fired into a vehicle the man was sitting in. Parhm's body was later found on the roadside near Booker High School.
