Server accused of stealing $32,000 from Florida restaurant

Posted

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police say a man took $32,000 in food and cash from a central Florida restaurant where he worked as a part-time server.

Ormond Beach police say 27-year-old Anthony Liang was "manipulating food service receipts" at Red Bowl restaurant for almost a year before his arrest in Oct. 31.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/2eFhahU ) reports that while patrons were getting their meals, the receipts didn't reflect that that had paid.

Investigators say he told customers there was a special on their meals and showed them the real price, and a second price in hopes of getting a higher tip. The report says he then changed the price to zero and pocketed the money.

Liang was charged with grand theft. Records don't say whether he has a lawyer.
